  1. Okay so I warned you that I am a very beginner to photoshop and so I am wondering how you get into Adobe bridge and how you download your pictures into that and also what button is the command key?

  2. I am with Jackie. I have never used Adobe Bridge and I know nothing about it. Once you have chosen your pictures, Is there an easy way to open them in Photoshop with the star rating? Also, are there any other neat features of Bridge? I figured out the mini bridge. Jackie, the command key is control on a PC. I don't know if you use a Mac or PC.

Is there a way to move where the buttons are for your action in your actions box? If I want the most used ones at the top, can I move them there?

Also I currently use Coffee Shop's Perfect Portrait a lot but there are times when I just want to soften the skin or just define the eyes but have to run the whole action. Are there ways to make new actions from the actions you have to customize them for what you want to use at the time?

When you are editing for a client, do you give all the photos you are going to show a similar look, i.e. using the same actions, or do you show different styles?

  1. I would love to see another video using textures. I am still not sure or confident on how to choose the texture to overlay onto a photo. How to find a good texture for a photo. There are so many textures out there how do you choose which one to use. I am sure it is how you want the final look to be but how do you use bricks, rusty wall, cracked mud, etc.

Why if you were needing to brighten the picture wouldn't you just change the brightness or use lighten with a mask? Or because you were wanting to use a texture you chose a brighter texture? So if you want to darken a picture chose a dark/er texture?

    I hope this makes sense.

  2. My question is similar. What about a photo makes you want to use a texture? Are there certain qualities you that jump out at you?

What do you mean when you say clean edit?

On the second video and I am sure I have seen it on other videos too but I have noticed that when you have run an action and want to run another one you may have something in the first action highlighted, run an action, and it runs just fine and adds the new action into the first action. I always thought you had to flatten it or highlight the background to run a new action. Sometimes, if I remember right, when I run an action and then run another one it says that it can't or attaches itself to the part of the first action below it or says that a mask isn't available, etc. it just runs weird. Is that the case for some actions or am I doing something wrong? I hope this makes sense. :)

what is considered high definition and how do you save your photos as that? You hear photographers say that you get a CD with high definition pictures but what exactly is that? It seems as though a lot is lost after I open my RAW files which are anywhere between 18-24MB. Then when I open them in photoshop, edit them, and choose the highest saving option it brings the picture down to 5-10MB. Seems like a lot of lost MB. In addition, what is the best way to save your pictures for a CD, for the internet/blog.

Also, are you going to touch on batch processing at all. Maybe for water marks or cropping for printing.

I was wondering how I make sure I always have the original picture to go back to as I couldnt find an undo button and once you save it, is the original gone.

  1. When creating a snapshot is that an easy way to save multiple versions of the same picture?

Hi Melinda, I have a very specific question: I am trying to crop, which I have done many times, but the crop tool is stuck in portrait and I need landscape. How do I switch it back?

Thank you both. I goggled it because I was stuck so I did find that button, but up until last night I was able to move my crop tool to fit any orientation I wanted at any size I wanted. I liked the freedom of that but is it smarter to stick to an established printing size? Crop to the largest printing dimensions and then work down from there as needed?

After watching all of the videos, I need to understand "flattening" a little better.  When and why do you flatten?  Once you flatten, can it be undone? Also, I have noticed that when I flatten, is it combining by background layer?  I hope these questions make sense.

Can you go over the shortcut commands a little bit more?

Hi MIndy, I have a question. I was wondering if the way you get the back ground to blur out is with your f stops or if I still use my camera on auto mode is there a way to get a similar look with editing.  An example is on the top of your blog in the bottom left corner the black and white picture of the girl who is a senior up against a brick wall.  I love how it is blurred a little in front of her and behind her.  Also the engagement session just below the new baby on your blog, picture 5 and 8 (the one close up of the girl and boy but the background is blurred) is a mystery to me, then some times the trees are so clear in different pictures but the same location.  I also can’t figure out what button you click on in the end to “sharpen” or is that an action your clicking on?? Is vignetting just making the picture darker behind the subject or on the corners? Hope this is not to  many questions? Thanks Michelle oh p.s loving the class and all the questions answered and videos.

I wanted to know about reflections in water. I see great pictures with reflections but is there something in photoshop that can be done to make the reflection really POP?
Alisa

ANSWER: Great question, Alisa! Getting good reflections is more a product of what you do while you're taking the picture, and the conditions you are working in. The more glassy the water, the more clear the reflections will be, and you'll want to play with the direction of the light too, to make the reflections pop more. If the water is reflecting the light too much, you won't see the people as well. In photoshop, you'll just want to treat the reflection like any other part of the picture. Some contrast, sharpening, and maybe a bit of lightening or darkening (depending on if the reflection is too light, or too dark to begin with) will help it stand out a bit more.  Good luck! A great reflection photo is a prize... I hope you capture a lot of them!

    1. Leslie maybe I can help...when you have selected the crop tool, look up at the top where the dimensions are and in-between width and height there is a button with two little arrows that point right and left. If you click that then it will change from portrait to landscape.

    2. Exactly right. :) I'll make a video demonstrating it, just in case you're confused... but hopefully you can figure it out by then!

  3. Hey Mindy, When I first started playing with actions, they were working perfectly, but now I can't get my brushes to work and some of my actions won't play. What am I doing wrong?

  4. Is there anything that you are surprised we didn't or haven't asked? Something that we may not have thought of that you use all the time or think is important when editing pictures? :) I have really enjoyed this class BTW!! You are amazing for taking the time to do all the videos and behind the scenes work! THANK YOU!
