8: Textures

Textures are a lot of fun... and not that hard to do! They can enhance a photo's colors, add a vintage look, or completely transform a photo.

  1. I would love to see another video using textures. I am still not sure or confident on how to choose the texture to overlay onto a photo. How to find a good texture for a photo. There are so many textures out there how do you choose which one to use. I am sure it is how you want the final look to be but how do you use bricks, rusty wall, cracked mud, etc.

Why if you were needing to brighten the picture wouldn't you just change the brightness or use lighten with a mask? Or because you were wanting to use a texture you chose a brighter texture? So if you want to darken a picture chose a dark/er texture?

    I hope this makes sense.

  2. My question is similar. What about a photo makes you want to use a texture? Are there certain qualities you that jump out at you?

  3. So if I am understanding this right when using a texture and you want to remove just the texture from the subject then you use the lasso tool. Then when you want to remove both the color and texture you can use a mask to remove it?

    1. Yes! Exactly. Let me know if you need any more clarification on that, but it sounds like you've got the idea down perfectly.
